Palesa Nkabinde - The Wellness Entrepreneur Transforming African Healing Into Everyday Living

Palesa Nkabinde - The Wellness Entrepreneur Transforming African Healing Into Everyday Living

Palesa Nkabinde

Palesa Nkabinde is a woman whose story is rooted in purpose, intuition, and a deep connection to nature. As the founder of Palesa Wadi Spice and African Health Bar, she has crafted a business that stands at the intersection of food, wellness, and African indigenous healing. She is a mother, a student, a creator, and a guide-leading people toward healthier living while honouring the traditional wisdom she grew up around.

Her days are a blend of entrepreneurship, academics, parenting, and community-building. When she’s not preparing a wellness blend or researching African herbs, she can be found outdoors hosting guided nature hikes designed to restore balance, clarity, and grounding in people’s lives. “Nature is where I feel myself returning home,” she says. “It’s where people remember who they are.”

A Childhood Shaped by Books, Silence, and the Kitchen

Growing up, Palesa was gentle, introspective, and happiest in quiet spaces. She describes her younger self as an introvert who preferred staying indoors with a book rather than socialising. But it wasn’t isolation-it was the early forming of a mind that absorbed, observed, and imagined.

“I spent most of my childhood in the library,” she recalls. “And when I wasn’t reading, I was in the kitchen with my grandmother-mixing, tasting, experimenting. That’s where the love for flavours truly began.”

The kitchen became her first classroom. Her grandmother’s recipes, herbs, and combinations planted the early seeds of what would later become a wellness brand loved for its authenticity, taste, and healing power.

Turning Passion Into Purpose: The Birth of Palesa Wadi Spice

Today, Palesa offers a range of wellness-driven products-flavour-infused salts, spices, herbal teas, healthy seeds, and African herbs carefully selected for their medicinal value. But these aren’t ordinary kitchen products; they are crafted with intention, ancestral knowledge, and a passion for holistic wellbeing.

“My products are unique because they are personalised and health-focused,” she explains. “I want people to enjoy healthy eating without feeling like they are giving up flavour.”

Her blends provide solutions for people who want to eat better but struggle with bland food or lack knowledge about healing herbs. Through her products, she empowers families to enjoy nutritious meals while naturally supporting the body.

Walking in Purpose, Not Just Business

For Palesa, wellness is more than a commercial offering-it’s a calling.

“I’m in business because I believe in natural living,” she says. “I want to provide healthier alternatives that honour African healing traditions and improve people’s daily lives.”

She sees her work as a spiritual and cultural contribution. Every product she creates carries the intention to heal, educate, and restore.

It’s no surprise that the book she most often recommends is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho-a story about destiny, purpose, and trusting the journey.

Overcoming Challenges Through Self-Belief

Like many entrepreneurs, Palesa didn’t begin with formal training or business knowledge. She had to learn everything from scratch-pricing, branding, compliance, production, customer engagement, and market positioning.

“Starting without business training was my biggest challenge,” she says. “But it made me stronger and more resourceful.”

She credits this learning curve for sharpening her resilience and forcing her to grow faster than she would have otherwise. In fact, one of her biggest early mistakes later became a blessing.

“I said yes to opportunities before I felt ready,” she says with a smile. “But those moments built confidence I didn’t know I had.”

A Brand Evolving With Its Community

Much of Palesa’s product development is shaped through daily interactions with her customers. She trades at local markets, engages with people directly, and listens with intention.

“My customers guide me,” she says. “I create based on what they need, what they struggle with, and what their bodies are asking for.”

This responsiveness is what led her to expand from spices into herbal teas, seeds, and wellness herbs. She realised people needed a full wellness ecosystem-not just flavour.

“That pivot changed everything,” she says. “It helped me serve my community on a deeper level.”

Values That Never Shift

In a world where businesses often compromise to grow, Palesa stands firm.

“I don’t compromise on my core values,” she states. “If something threatens the quality, honesty, or health integrity of my products, it’s a firm no. Trust is non-negotiable.”

Her business is built on purity, transparency, and respect for people’s wellbeing. Every decision she makes, from sourcing to packaging, reflects that principle.

A Vision Rooted in Growth, Legacy, and African Excellence

Over the next 3–5 years, Palesa plans to expand into retail stores, cafés, health shops, and wellness centres. A key milestone on her vision board is securing a custom-built production container with full regulatory certification - creating a space that supports safer, larger-scale production.

“My dream is to build a recognised African wellness brand,” she says. “One that represents quality, healing, and the wisdom of our ancestors.”

Beyond business metrics, she is driven by purpose and the future she is shaping for her family.

“What motivates me every morning is impact,” she reflects. “Knowing that what I create helps people feel better, live healthier, and reconnect with themselves.”

Words of Wisdom for Future Entrepreneurs

For anyone dreaming of starting a business, Palesa offers grounded, heartfelt advice:

“Start with what you have. You won’t have everything figured out at first. But consistency, patience, and listening to your customers will guide you.”

Her story is a reminder that greatness can begin quietly-in a library, in a grandmother’s kitchen, or in the heart of a girl who simply believes in healing.
