Khanya Nyilenda: Building Businesses That Restore People and the Planet

Khanya Nyilenda: Building Businesses That Restore People and the Planet

March 9, 2026

Khanya Nyilenda

Khanya Nyilenda is a purpose-led entrepreneur, speaker, and builder of solutions rooted in faith, stewardship, and impact. Born and raised in South Africa's Eastern Cape, her life story is deeply connected to the powerful influence of two women who raised her—her grandmother and her mother.

These women instilled in her a strong spiritual foundation and the confidence to walk through life with her head held high. Those early lessons of faith and responsibility continue to guide her today. For Khanya, business is not simply about building companies or chasing profit. It is about honouring the resources and opportunities entrusted to her and using them to serve people and communities.

Everything she creates reflects that philosophy: a belief in the potential of people, a commitment to responsible leadership, and a desire to leave the world better than she found it.

A Curious Mind Shaped by Strong Values

As a child, Khanya was known for her endless curiosity. In school she was the learner who constantly raised her hand, asking questions and searching for deeper understanding. Her eagerness to learn was so persistent that teachers sometimes had to pause her just to give other students a chance to participate.

That curiosity never faded; it simply matured into discernment. Instead of merely asking questions, she learned to observe patterns in people, industries, and systems.

Her upbringing also played a powerful role in shaping her outlook on life. The household she grew up in practiced excellent stewardship. Every possession, no matter how small, was treated with care and dignity. Because of that environment, she never developed a scarcity mindset. Instead, she learned to value what she had while believing there was always room for growth and opportunity.

Those lessons helped shape her into a thoughtful and emotionally grounded leader who seeks to understand the world deeply before taking action.

Building Solutions Through Summernet Group

Khanya Nyilenda - Summernet Group

Today, Khanya leads Summernet Group, a company driven by the mission of restoring balance in both people and the environment.

Through Summernet Wellness, the organisation focuses on the human side of productivity and performance by offering corporate wellness programmes, counselling services, and Employee Assistance Programmes designed to support the mental and emotional wellbeing of employees.

Alongside this, Geo Regreen focuses on regenerative agriculture and soil restoration. The initiative works with farmers to improve soil health through diagnostics, training, and the development of innovative soil-enhancing solutions designed to rehabilitate degraded land.

What makes her work distinctive is the belief that lasting change happens when entire systems are restored. By caring for both the wellbeing of people and the health of the land, Khanya's businesses operate at the intersection of human development and environmental sustainability.

Solving Problems That Shape the Future

The work she leads addresses two critical challenges facing modern society.

The first is human burnout. In many organisations, employees face constant pressure and emotional fatigue. Through Summernet Wellness, Khanya and her team help companies create healthier environments where people can thrive mentally and emotionally.

The second challenge is environmental degradation. Soil health in many agricultural areas continues to decline, threatening food security and the livelihoods of farmers. Through Geo Regreen, she is working toward restoring soil ecosystems so agriculture can remain sustainable for generations to come.

At the heart of both initiatives lies the same mission: restoring balance where it has been lost.

Lessons from the Journey

One book that deeply influenced Khanya's outlook is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. The novel explores the relationship between purpose, patience, and destiny, reminding readers that the journey toward one's calling is often as meaningful as the destination itself.

Her own entrepreneurial journey reflects that truth. One of the most challenging aspects of building her business was learning to endure seasons where hard work did not immediately produce visible results. Those moments required patience, faith, and resilience.

Establishing a brand from the ground up also meant earning trust in spaces where she was not yet known. It demanded humility and persistence, along with the courage to continue building even when recognition was still far away.

A Vision That Extends Across Africa

Looking ahead, Khanya envisions expanding the reach of Summernet Group across the African continent. She hopes to see Geo Regreen become a recognised name in regenerative agriculture while Summernet Wellness continues to grow as a trusted partner for organisations seeking to prioritise employee wellbeing.

Her long-term vision is to build strong systems that can continue serving communities long after her direct involvement. For Khanya, real success lies in creating structures that endure and continue delivering impact for future generations.

The Philosophy That Drives Her

One powerful saying in IsiXhosa shapes Khanya's daily mindset: "Impundo ziyavimba."

The phrase carries a simple but powerful message—nothing meaningful can be achieved while sitting still.

She often illustrates this with a train analogy. A train will never leave its tracks to come searching for you at your doorstep. If you want to reach your destination, you must get up, walk to the station, and meet the train at the platform.

That philosophy keeps her moving forward every day with intention, discipline, and purpose.

Wisdom for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

For those thinking about starting their own businesses, Khanya encourages preparation and continuous learning. She believes aspiring entrepreneurs should surround themselves with people who challenge and sharpen their thinking, while also using modern tools such as social media strategically to build their brand.

Most importantly, she emphasises the importance of staying grounded in one's values. When leaders remain anchored in who they are and what they stand for, navigating challenges and opportunities becomes far clearer.

When Detours Become Preparation

Earlier in her entrepreneurial journey, Khanya started businesses in industries that seemed far removed from her current focus. She began with a cleaning company and later ventured into detergent manufacturing.

At the time, these experiences appeared to be temporary steps. With hindsight, however, she recognises them as valuable training grounds that taught her the discipline of service delivery and the operational realities of manufacturing.

Those early ventures built the resilience and practical knowledge that now allow her to confidently lead both product-based and service-based enterprises.

A Legacy of Restoration

Eventually, Khanya made the bold decision to pivot away from those earlier ventures toward wellness and agro-biotechnology. The shift was driven by a growing clarity about where her skills and passion could make the greatest impact.

She navigated that transition with prayer, humility, and a willingness to start again as a student. While the journey required courage, it ultimately allowed her to align her work more closely with her calling.

Today, Khanya Nyilenda continues to build businesses with a clear purpose: restoring people, restoring the land, and creating a legacy that serves communities for generations.
