Raising African Female Voices: The Inspiring Journey of Lebogang Tisane-Masega

Raising African Female Voices: The Inspiring Journey of Lebogang Tisane-Masega

September 22, 2025

Lebogang Tisane-Masega

In a world where women’s stories are often overlooked, Lebogang Tisane-Masega is determined to change the narrative. She is a social entrepreneur, researcher, and the founder of African Female Voices (AFV), a pan-African platform dedicated to amplifying women’s voices, celebrating resilience, and driving collective action.

Through AFV she has built more than a digital platform—she has cultivated a movement of storytelling, mentorship, and advocacy that stretches across Africa. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Digital Transformation, Lebogang merges technology, advocacy, and community-building to create solutions that deliver real social impact.

A Childhood Shaped by Faith and Curiosity

Lebogang grew up in Polokwane, Limpopo, in a Christian home with her siblings. From an early age she showed natural curiosity, an outspoken nature, and deep empathy. Public-speaking and debating gave her confidence to explore complex social issues—especially those affecting women.

“Even as a child I knew I wanted to make a difference instead of just discussing these issues. My upbringing instilled a strong moral compass and a responsibility to serve others.”

African Female Voices: From Concept to Movement

AFV was born from Lebogang’s belief that African women need a powerful platform to tell their stories, shape narratives, and influence change. The organisation produces articles, videos, podcasts, and community-driven campaigns, and hosts workshops and mentorship initiatives.

What makes AFV unique is its combination of authentic storytelling with direct, decisive action. “We don’t just discuss women’s issues—we take action to elevate African women as leaders, innovators, and change-makers.”

Tackling the Gaps: Why AFV Matters

Lebogang founded AFV because African women are under-represented in leadership and media, yet possess limitless potential. Too often narratives focus on struggles rather than achievements. AFV celebrates victories, provides resources, and creates opportunities—supporting women socially, politically, and economically.

Key Initiatives and Campaigns

Faith, Resilience, and Learning from Challenges

Launching AFV in her late 20s while still studying was daunting. Financial limitations forced her to balance academics, early consulting work, and grassroots advocacy. “Those challenges taught me resilience, creativity, and strategic problem-solving.”

Her faith grounds her leadership and ethical decision-making, providing strength when adversity strikes.

Staying Ahead in a Changing World

Through surveys, social-media engagement, workshops, and forums, Lebogang continuously adapts AFV’s strategies. Her Ph.D. research equips her to leverage technology for advocacy and scalable community impact.

Vision for the Next 3–5 Years

Lebogang sees AFV becoming a continent-wide hub for women’s storytelling, leadership, and advocacy. Goals include scaling InnovateHER and Empowered to Earn, influencing policy reforms, expanding mentorship networks, and building a self-sustaining ecosystem for women in under-represented sectors.

Motivation and Daily Drive

“The knowledge that every woman’s voice matters drives me. Seeing women claim leadership, share stories, and influence change inspires me daily.”

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

“Start with what you have, where you are. Don’t wait for funding or recognition. Serve intentionally, act consistently, and learn along the way. Passion, purpose, and persistence will carry you through.”
