For Women, By Women: How Maambele Khosa Built SheCab for Safer Rides

For Women, By Women: How Maambele Khosa Built SheCab for Safer Rides

October 6, 2025

Maambele Khosa - SheCab

When Maambele Khosa founded SheCab, her vision was clear: to create a safer, more empowering way for women to move around. In a world where personal safety remains a concern for many women, Maambele saw an urgent need — not just for transportation, but for trust, respect, and peace of mind on every ride.

“SheCab was created to provide safer transportation for women and to empower them through employment opportunities. It is not just about getting from one point to another — it is about knowing that you are safe and supported by another woman who understands.”

A Safer Way Forward

From the start, SheCab was designed differently. Every detail, from driver training to the simple booking process, was built around safety and comfort.

“Our professional female drivers are properly trained and have an SOS button at their fingertips. Whether you are riding in the backseat or driving up front, every part of the SheCab experience has been designed around your safety and security.”

Instead of requiring an app download, SheCab uses WhatsApp for ride bookings, making it accessible to anyone with a smartphone. “You do not need an extra app. Just WhatsApp us, and we will get you there safely.”

Breaking Barriers in Transport

Building a women-led transport company in a male-dominated industry was never going to be easy. Maambele had to challenge stereotypes and navigate skepticism while building a trusted brand from the ground up.

SheCab stands out because of professionalism and community-first standards: many drivers hold professional licences and first-aid training, and advanced driving certifications are encouraged.

Empowering Women Through Mobility

Beyond transport, SheCab represents empowerment. It gives women both safety as passengers and opportunity as drivers.

“When women get together and support each other, anything is possible. We created SheCab to be truly by women, for women, so you know that someone you can trust is picking you up.”

SheCab is changing perceptions — showing that women can lead in every part of the transport chain, from the driver’s seat to the boardroom.

Vision Beyond the Road

Forbes recognition

In recognition of her vision and leadership, Maambele Khosa was named in the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 list — a testament to her influence and contribution to women’s empowerment and innovation in transport.

Advice for Future Entrepreneurs

“Focus on addressing a meaningful problem that affects your audience. When your business is dedicated to creating positive change, it not only builds loyalty — it creates a legacy.”
